HistoryGolden Key National Honour Society (later renamed International in 2000) was founded at Georgia State University on November 29, 1977 by a group of outstanding undergraduate students. Since that date, the Society has established more than 330 university chapters in Australia, Canada, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United States and has recognized more than one million lifetime members and over 13,000 honourary members. The Society's international development was initiated in 1993 when chapters were chartered at four Australian institutions including Macquarie University, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and the Universities of Queensland and Sydney. Additional chapters have since been established at universities throughout Australia. In an effort to expand this international network of universities, the Society is currently developing chapters in Canada and Malaysia. The initial Canadian chapters were chartered in April 1997 at McGill University and the University of Toronto During the 1998 academic year, additional chapters were chartered at McMaster University, the University of Alberta, and The University of British Columbia agreed to develop a chapter. |
