About Golden Key Golden Key International Honour Society is a nonprofit, academic honours organization founded by students for the purpose of recognizing and encouraging scholastic achievement. The Society facilitates interaction among high-achieving students from diverse faculties and degree programs within universities, and reinforces students' contact with academic staff through chapter programs. Golden Key is distinguished by the following characteristics:
- OBJECTIVE MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA
Membership is by invitation only, is based purely on academic merit and is limited to the top 15 percent of bachelor's degree students. Each university chapter may determine the specific academic requirements within this standard. Part-time as well as full-time students qualify for membership.
- SCHOLARSHIPS
Undergraduate scholarships are awarded annually by each chapter to outstanding members. In addition, prestigious Golden Key Scholar Awards, postgraduate scholarships available to active members, are supported by an endowment of the Society. More than US$2,000,000 in scholarships have been presented to Golden Key members through these programs.
- LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP FEES
The one-time membership fee is the only monetary requirement of members. As a nonprofit organization, Golden Key uses the fee to maintain the Society for the benefit of its chapters and members through scholarships and various other programs. Membership benefits are transferable to any chapter within the Society.
- CHAPTER ACTIVITIES
Members are encouraged to participate in activities which promote academic achievement, serve the community, and provide social interaction. Opportunities are also available to serve on the chapter's executive committee. In addition, a network of students and university staff is available to provide assistance while traveling in Australia, Canada, Malaysia and the United States for conferences, student exchange, postgraduate study or vacation travel.
- CAREER ASSISTANCE
Corporations and government agencies recruit Golden Key members based on their distinguished academic record, leadership potential and commitment to community service. Career Assistance Reference, a publication developed specifically for members, provides students with a network of recruiting contacts for career opportunities and vacation employment.
